Alerts guide
Send app reviews to Slack and Discord
Google Play emails you about new and updated reviews. Apple doesn't email you when a new review arrives, and its API's webhooks have no review event. To see reviews where your team already talks, you can send them to Slack or Discord yourself, or let a tool do it.

What the stores send you
- Google Play: Play Console emails you about new and updated reviews.
- App Store: the only review email Apple lists is for when a customer edits a review you've already answered. A new review reaches you only as a notification in the App Store Connect app for iPhone and iPad.
- The App Store Connect API's webhooks don't include a review event either, so a job has to ask the API for new reviews on a schedule.

Get a Slack webhook
- Create a Slack app and pick the workspace it belongs to.
- In the app's settings, open Incoming Webhooks and turn on Activate Incoming Webhooks.
- Click Add New Webhook to Workspace, choose the channel and click Authorize. For a private channel, join it first.
- Copy the webhook URL. Posting a message is a
POSTof JSON to that URL:
POST https://hooks.slack.com/services/T…/B…/…
Content-Type: application/json
{ "text": "1★ Nook Focus · App Store · USA\nThe timer stops when I lock my phone." }Each webhook posts to one channel, and a message can't be deleted once it's posted. The URL contains a secret: keep it out of your code repository, because Slack looks for leaked webhook URLs and revokes them.
Get a Discord webhook
Create a webhook for the channel in Discord and copy its URL. Posting needs no bot and no sign-in: a POST /webhooks/{webhook.id}/{webhook.token} with content (up to 2,000 characters) or up to 10 embeds is enough.
POST /webhooks/{webhook.id}/{webhook.token}
Content-Type: application/json
{ "content": "1★ Nook Focus · Google Play\nThe timer stops when I lock my phone." }That's also why the URL must stay private: anyone who has it can post to your channel.
Fetch new reviews on a schedule
- App Store:
GET /v1/apps/{id}/customerReviews?sort=-createdDatereturns the newest reviews first, up to 200 a page. Remember the newest date you've posted and stop when you reach it. - Google Play:
GET …/applications/{packageName}/reviewsreturns only reviews written or changed in the last 7 days, and each app gets 200 read requests an hour. Checking every few hours stays well inside both. - Each store needs its own access: an App Store Connect API key, which an Admin creates, and a service account with the Reply to reviews permission on Google Play.
What a useful alert contains
- The star rating, the app, the store and the country, so the right person picks it up.
- The review in full. For a translated Google Play review, the API also gives you
originalText, the reviewer's own words. - The app version the reviewer had, which Google Play's API includes when it knows it.
- Lowest ratings and reports of a technical problem first: that's where Apple suggests starting when you can't answer every review.
- Several reviews in one message rather than one message each, so the channel stays readable.
Questions developers ask
Does App Store Connect email me when someone reviews my app?
No. The only review email Apple lists is for when a customer edits a review you've already responded to. The App Store Connect app for iPhone and iPad does notify you of new reviews.
Can I get App Store reviews through a webhook?
Not from Apple: the App Store Connect API's webhook events don't include reviews. A job has to ask the API for new reviews on a schedule.
Why does the Google Play API miss older reviews?
It only returns reviews written or changed in the last 7 days, and only ones with text. Check at least once a day so nothing slips past that window.
How often can I check Google Play for new reviews?
Each app gets 200 read requests an hour. Google can raise that if you ask.
Can I reply to a review from Slack or Discord?
Not with a webhook alone: it only posts messages into the channel. Publishing a reply takes the store's reply API, POST /v1/customerReviewResponses on the App Store or …/reviews/{reviewId}:reply on Google Play, behind a button or a command.
Is it safe to keep the webhook URL in my code?
Keep it out of your repository. Slack treats it as a secret and revokes leaked ones, and anyone with a Discord webhook URL can post to your channel.

Alerts without the plumbing
Merci AI checks the App Store and Google Play for new reviews every 6 hours and posts them to your Slack or Discord channel, the most urgent first, with reply drafts in the reviewers' languages and links back to Merci AI. You can get the same alert by email. Nothing is published to a store until you click Publish in Merci AI, and the webhook URL is stored encrypted.
